A tacky track meant that all of the cars were going to be
fast early on in the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Dave
DeGrave used his front row starting spot to jet to the lead
followed by Roger Laviolette, Frank Paul, and Jarred
VanLaanen. On lap 6, coming out of turn two, DeGrave blew
his motor. VanLaanen shot to the inside and inherited the
lead. VanLaanen continued to lead while Laviolette and Paul
battled for second. Neither could make the charge
giving VanLaanen his first career feature win. Laviolette
was second followed by Paul, Jeff Lautenbach, and Keith
Kickbusch.
Next to the track was the Street Stock feature with Tim
Czarneski grabbing the reigns and taking off. Tim Czarneski
pulled away by ½ lap over Tim Jandrin and Dennis Weidner at
the halfway point of the race. Aaron Thornton made his
bid for the front by passing three cars coming out of turn
two for second place. Czarneski would continue to
dominate until the white flag flew. Czarneski's power
steering belt came off as he slammed into the wall. With
Thornton coming
Czarneski continued to bounce off the wall all the way
around the track. Thornton however was able to catch
Czarneski and make the pass for his fourth straight Street
Stock feature win of the season. Czarneski settled for
second followed by Weidner, Jeremy Wiitala, and Scott
Reinhardt.
Mark Derene used the fast, tacky track to dominate the
start of the IMCA Stockcar feature. On lap 4, Willie DeGrave
proceeded to blast into the Don Aregoni car in the left
rear. Aregoni's car then flipped in the middle of turn three
and four collecting Shawn Havel, Von Eytcheson and Tony
Bouche. All drivers were o.k. John Heinz used the restart to
get right to
the back bumper of Derenne. With five laps to go Bernie
Reinhardt made his way to third place and started running
down the top 2. A caution with two laps to go setup the
field for a two lap dash for cash. Derenne was able to stay
out front as Heinz got into Reinhardt in turn one. Derenne
cruised to victory followed by Heinz, Reinhardt(had to
transfer through the Consy), DeGrave, and Cory Cochart.
Mark Christenson came out of a race long duel with Jeff
Dubois to record his first career feature win in the IMCA
Northern Sportmod class. Dubois finished second followed by
Dave Budzban, and Dave Davister.
In Bomber heat race action, Cody Laviolette flipped his ride
in his first ever night in the car. He was o.k.
Next Saturday Night is S&B Trailer Sales Night. The first
$300 people in the stands will receive a free t-shirt. The
track's website is www.racethunderhill.com
