June 2, 2005; Sturgeon Bay,
WI. - The United States Modified Touring Series is coming to the Forest
County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway on Wednesday Night June 22nd. WAPL and Forest County
Potawatomi will be the evenings sponsors. This is the first year that the USMTS will
be coming to Thunderhill Raceway. IMCA-style Modifieds and Stockcars will also be running.
This is the 7th season for the USMTS. We started the USMTS so that the top modified
drivers in the nation had somewhere to compete against one another. Todd Staley,
President and Promoter. Kelly Shryock has won six consecutive national championships and
is the current leader in points.
Drivers will be drawing for their starting spots in the heats. The USMTS qualifies cars
for the feature by passing points. The reason we do passing points is because
instead of starting in the first 2 or 3 rows and just staying there to qualify for the
feature; a driver has to try and keep passing cars for points. This makes the racing more
exciting for the fans. Jeff Nun, public relations for the USMTS.
Racing will get underway at 6 p.m. Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway is located
at the John Miles Fair Park in Sturgeon Bay, WI. The tracks website is
www.racethunderhill.com. The USMTS website is www.usmts.com. |
