Dairy Queen Street Stocks #11 Von Eytcheson caught race leader #95 Aaron Thornton, used the top-side, and grabbed the lead, but Thornton was right there.  Coming around for the white flag Eytcheson crossed the line first.  Think the race was complete, Eytcheson cruised along to finish second.   Aaron Thornton picked up his second feature win in a row off the miscue.

After the five exciting features took place, the women got their chances on the track in the annual powder puff races. Winners included Marie Therrien.

Matt Junio emerged from a race-long battle with Craig Paque to win his third feature win of the season, in the Wulf Brother’s IMCA Stockcars. Tony Schlei broke away from the pack with five laps to go to win his third Mays Sport Center IMCA Hobby Stock feature of the season. Aaron Thornton re-captured the lead on the last lap, due to a miscue by Von Eytcheson, to win his second Dairy Queen Street Stock feature of the year. Tyler Smith led the most important lap, the last lap, in winning the Door County Motorsports 4- cylinder feature.

Dwayne Mertens led the opening two laps of the Mays Sport Center IMCA Hobby stocks, until Dave Serrahn took control for only a lap. Mertens came flying back to take the lead back from Serrahn. Dwayne led until Tony Schlei made his move on lap 8, and took the lead. Mertens held second, until contact with Eddie Anschutz, giving him a flat tire. Schlei continued to lead, with Brumlic hot on his bumper. Schlei was able to pull away from Brumlic, and won his third feature of the season. Following Schlei at the checkers were Brumlic, Roger Laviolette, Keith Kickbusch, and Dave DeGrave. “I saw them putting water on the track before our feature. I thought it would be a little slicker, but it dried up nicely. I was able to pass enough cars to win the race.” Schlei’s response when asked what he thought of the water put on the track.

Craig Paque made his way from his third row starting spot to lead the opening laps of the Wulf Brother’s IMCA Stockcar feature. Matt Junio settled in second, but not for long. On lap 6, Junio took the lead using the top side of the track. Junio began pulling away. Paque caught Junio with five laps to go, and made his move on the inside. Junio was just too strong using the low-line. With two laps to go, the yellow flag flew for an accident. Troy Muench used a strong re-start to grab the lead, but got too high coming to the white flag. Junio re-gained the lead and cruised to victory; he picked up his third feature win of the season. Paque, Eugene Gregorich, Muench, and Dave Bouche rounded out the top 5. “We had the car on scales three times this week. I could really tell the difference. We were working so hard on my car that we even forgot to drink. Boss Bandit is looking down on us this season.” Junio’s reactions after his third feature win of the season.

Scott Boyea looked to be the early man to beat in the Budweiser IMCA Modified feature event. Boyea was the leader with a fast low-line run. He continued to lead until Jeremy Jacobs started to put heavy pressure on him. Jacobs made the pass using the top groove. Lacrosse then made his way to second on a low-line pass on Boyea. Lacrosse quickly got to the back bumper of Jacobs but couldn’t make a move. Numerous times he tried the low-line, but Jacobs had great momentum up top. Although heavily pressured from Lacrosse, Jacobs kept his lead, and went on to win his second feature in a row. Following Jacobs were Lacrosse, Sean Jerovetz, Paul Parker, and Jared Siefert.

Miscue was the word of the day for Von Eytcheson in the Dairy Queen Street Stock feature. Aaron Thornton took control of the feature from the drop of the green flag. Thornton continued to dominate throughout the mid-part of the race. Von Eytcheson made his way from the fifth row, to second and started his pursuit on Thornton. The battle for third was between Mike Pierrard, Faron Beilke, and Scott Iverson. Eytcheson caught Thornton from almost a straight-away down, and made his move on Thornton. Eytcheson used the top-side, and grabbed the lead, but Thornton was still right there. Coming around for the white flag Eytcheson crossed the line first. “I saw when Tracy {flagman} gave us two laps to go. I was racing so hard I thought we were on the last lap. So when I crossed the line I thought I had won the race, in reality there was still a lap to go.” Eytcheson’s comment after finding out there was still another lap left. Eytcheson cruised along finishing second. Aaron Thornton picked up his second feature win in a row.

The Door County Motorsports 4-cylinder feature was the most exciting feature of the night. Tom Zastrow led the opening lap, before two-time champion Kenny Malcore took the lead. Last week’s winner, Tony Everard, made his move to the inside and took the lead from Malcore. Tim Jorgenson and Tyler Smith followed Everard to pass Malcore. Jorgenson then started to catch Everard. Smith stayed solidly in third by himself. Jorgenson caught Everard on the last lap. As they headed into turn three Jorgenson threw his car into the corner and hit Everard. He kept pushing until Everard spun and flew over the infield tire. He came back on the track and smashed back into Jorgenson. Everard flew into the wall on the front stretch. Jorgenson crossed the line first, but was disqualified for his blatant hit on Everard. The win went to Tyler Smith, followed by Kip Burlo and D.J. Jorgenson. “I picked up my fourth feature win of the season by luck tonight. I was in the right place at the right time tonight.” Smith after seeing the accident takes place in front of him.

After the five exciting features took place, the women got their chances on the track in the annual powder puff races. Winners were Marie Therrien and Pam Thornton.

Next Saturday Night’s races will be sponsored by Coca-Cola. Races start at 6 p.m. The Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway is located at the John Miles Fair Park in Sturgeon Bay. The track’s website is www.racethunderhill.com
