Thunderhill Hosts Banquet to Honor
Best of 2003!

- About 200 drivers, pitcrew, families and friends gathered Friday, January
23rd, in celebration of the 2003 race season at Thunderhill Raceway, Sturgeon Bay,
Wisconsin. The awards banquet was held at the Reef Sports Bar in Sturgeon Bay.
IMCA Modified driver Todd Dart, of Algoma, was crowned the Thunderhill
Raceway Champion, his fourth championship in the past six years. IMCA Stock Car
driver Shawn Kilgore, Kewaunee, won his divisions track title. In the
inaugural season for the IMCA Hobby Stocks, Sturgeon Bays Joe Hegnet took home
first place. Troy Muench, Green Bay, won the Street Stock title and in the Sport 4s,
Algomas Ken Malcore took home the first year championship honors for that division.
In the IMCA Modified division, Todd Dart won four feature events, the most of all drivers
in the class, and was followed in points at season's end by Jay Matthias and Dan
Ratajczak. Drivers Jared Siefert and Dave Zeitler shared fourth place in points.
A total of 10 different drivers won feature events in the IMCA Modified division.
Local favorite Julie McDermid was honored by Fans Favorite Award, Best
Appearing Car & Crew in the class while Benji LaCrosse earned the Rookie of the Year
honors.
In the IMCA Stock Car division, Shawn Kilgore won only one feature race and capped the
title over two-time champion Craig Paque by only seven points. Third place in points
went to Tim Van De Hei. Matt Junio and Pepe Vlies shared
fourth place. Local favorite Matt Junio was honored by Fans Favorite Award,
Best Appearing Car & Crew in the class while B.J. Soquet earned the Rookie of the Year
honors.
In the IMCA Hobby Stock division, Joe Hegnet won his first track title by only four points
over second place Ed Anschutz. Hegnet and Anschutz battled in points right down to
the wire on the last night, and were followed closely in
points much of the season by Tony Schlei of Zion, IL, who finished third in points.
Fourth and fifth in points went to Wayne Moore and Ryan LeMieux. Ed Anschutz
was honored by Fans Favorite Award, with Best Appearing Car to David Lane and Best
Appearing Crew to Kevin Laughlin. Joe Hegnet earned the Rookie of the Year honors.
The Street Stock track championship went to Troy Muench. Muench dominated the class
with 10 feature wins on point nights throughout the season, followed up by 10 heat wins.
Second place went to Kevin Jandrin. A tie for third place
in points went to Scott Reinhardt and Darren Otto. James Tebon followed up with a
fifth place finish in track points. Tebon was also honored by Fans Favorite
Award and Best Appearing Crew, with Best Appearing Car to Muench. Scott Reinhardt
earned the Rookie of the Year honors.
In the Sport Fours division, Ken Malcores consistency help him win the track
title with three feature wins along with nine, top-3 feature finishes. Second place
in points went to Bob Skippon and third to Chad Williams. Fourth and fifth went to
Todd Welsing and Tom Zastrow. Local favorite Mike Hanson was honored by Fans
Favorite Award, Best Appearing Car & Crew in the class while Ken Malcore earned the
Rookie of the Year honors.

Thunderhill drivers compete weekly on Saturday nights throughout the summer months
