(Sturgeon Bay, WI) September 1 Results- Shawn Havel used a late race pass on John Anschutz to score his third feature win of the season at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway. Other feature winners on Floors by Josh night were James Lee Tebon (IMCA Modified), Kelsy Hayes (IMCA Sport Mod), Derek Moede (IMCA Hobby Stock), Todd Polster (Street Stock) and Kasey Gross (Four-Cylinders).
Billy LeMieux scored the Massart’s Auto Body Lucky Duck award. Top 10 in points for all divisions listed at bottom of the race summary.
In the highly anticipated IMCA Stock Car feature John Anschutz jumped from the outside pole to the lead. Newly crowned Rookie of the Year Marcus Moede used the high side to pull even with Anschutz for the lead. The duo stayed door to door for the first half of the event with Anschutz able to hold off Moede’s advances. Dave Bouche came into the night leading defending Champion Troy Muench by just 2 points. Bouche stayed glued to Muench’s rear bumper for the first half of the race until Muench moved into the top four allowing him to take over the point lead. Bouche kept his cool charging into fifth with a hand full of laps remaining. Anschutz appeared to be on his way to his first feature win, but Shawn Havel had other plans taking over second and slipped by Anschutz with 3 laps remaining taking home his third win of the season. Anschutz held on for a season best second, Rick Dix third, Troy Muench fourth and Dave Bouche placed fifth securing his first ever Championship in the IMCA Stock Cars by 1 point over Muench.
Kelsy “Hollywood” Hayes outlasted Josh Massart scoring her second feature win of the season in the IMCA Sport Mods.
Massart wasted no time opening up a sizable lead in the opening laps. Hayes charged through on the top side and to the lead on lap 8. Massart fought back leading the next two laps as the duo battled for the lead. Leading the standings by only 1 point, Bernie Reinhardt quickly worked into the top four trying to distance himself from the guy chasing him for the title, Jarred VanLaanen. Hayes finally took sole possession of the top spot just past the midway point pulling away from the field and taking home the win in the caution free event. Massart ended a solid season second, Reinhardt third, Mark Joski fourth and newly crowned Wisconsin State and Luxemburg Speedway Champion Brad Lautenbach rounded out the top five. Brandon Peterson won Rookie of the Year honors. By virtue of his third place finish Bernie Reinhardt earned his first IMCA Sport Mod title, he also becomes the first driver at Thunderhill to win a Championship in three different divisions.
Derek Moede made the point battle tight picking up his second feature win of the season in the IMCA Hobby Stocks.
Eric Micolichek paced the opening lap before Travis Hackett worked the cushion and to the lead a lap later. Derek Moede came into the night trailing Tom Brumlic by 6 points. Moede knew his best chance for the title was to simply win. Moede tracked down Hackett and to the lead at the midway point. Hackett refused to give up taking the lead back 2 laps later. Brumlic who was suffering form ignition issues was unable to chase down the top four. Moede and Hackett raced door to door all the way to the final lap where Moede found just enough to power by for the win. Hackett second, Joe Hegnet third, Brumlic fourth and Rookie of the Year Brittany King fifth. Brumlic had just enough left under the hood of his racer to secure the Championship his first ever at Thunderhill. Brumlic’s stellar season also included a championship at Luxemburg Speedway and his second Wisconsin State title.
Todd Polster continued his domination in the Street Stocks with his sixth feature win.
Title contender Jimmy Anderson came into the night trailing Dennis Weidner by just 5 points. Anderson wasted no time flexing his muscle leading the first 7 laps before Polster took charge, taking the lead away from Anderson and never looked back cruising to the win. Geno Sternard second, defending Champion Tony Everard third, Rookie of the Year Kevin Luedtke was fourth and Anderson rounded out the top five. Dennis Weidner kept close tabs on Anderson all race long, when the dust settled Weidner held a 3 point advantage scoring his first career track title.
James Tebon left it all out on the track passing Billy LeMieux for the lead on lap 3 to score his sixth feature of the season in the IMCA Modifieds. LeMieux, Dan Ratajczak, Rookie of the Year Tyler Hackett and Scott Derenne completed the top five in the finishing order for the feature. Tebon’s domination of the IMCA Modifieds earned him the track title, which is the first of his career.
Kasey Gross made his first trip to Thunderhill a successful one, beating out Champion Joey Scoon for the victory. The Championship was a first for Scoon.
