(Sturgeon Bay, WI) Shawn Havel and Charlie Kroll are two of the finest IMCA Stockcar drivers that Thunderhill Raceway has had in the history of the track. Bret Koehler brushed off the advances of both drivers to win his second feature of the season Saturday night.
Von Eytcheson is one of the most decorated Street Stock drivers in the Street Stock division. He looked to notch another win under his belt as he pulled away from the field early in the feature event. Eytcheson led through a series of cautions throughout the race. The final caution flew with just a few laps remaining. Todd Polster finally got the break he was looking for the entire race when Eytcheson slipped up going into turn 1 with 2 laps remaining. Polster forced his way inside and traded paint with Eytcheson all the way down the backstretch. Polster would grab the lead and run to his 5th win of the season. Eytcheson would spin at the checkered flag but still finish second. Kevin Luedtke, Jimmy Anderson and Dennis Weidner finished top five.
Scott Derenne jumped up front and looked to try and pick up a clean sweep win in the IMCA Modified feature after winning his heat earlier in the evening. Dan Ratajczak had other plans and crept up and passed Derenne on lap 3. Ratajczak would go untested the rest of the event to pick up his second win of the season. James Tebon ran second and improved his point lead to 27 points with 2 nights remaining. Todd Dart, Billy Lemieux and Tyler Hackett all ran to top 5 finishes.
Kim Denil shot from outside row 1 and into the front of the IMCA Hobby Stock A Main Event. Denil would continue to lead until Travis Hackett shot in front and into the lead. Point leader, Tom Brumlic moved from his fourth row starting spot to second and tracked down Hackett. At the halfway point Brumlic was working all areas of the track to find enough speed to get around Hackett. Hackett would keep Brumlic at bay and pick up win number 4 on the season. Brumlic increased his point lead with his second place finish. Joe Hegnet finished third all by himself with Brittany King beating Amber Weidner back to the line for fourth.
Josh Massart started fourth but found himself taking the point after just the first lap of the IMCA Sportmod feature. A caution on lap 2 would bring the field to a regroup. Right after the restart, John Soukup took a nasty flip heading into turn 1 after contact with Kelsey Hayes and Martin Kelsey. He would be fine but his racer sustained night ending damage. Massart restarted up front but was quickly hounded by Bernie Reinhardt. Reinhardt worked inside Massart and on lap 8 moved to the top spot. Reinhardt pulled away over the waning laps to earn his 4th win. Massart finished second with Hayes battling back to the front for third. Rick Lemieux and point leader Jarred VanLaanen rounded out the top 5.
John Anschutz led the first few laps of the IMCA Stockcar feature with Bret Koehler on his back bumper. A restart after a lap 2 caution would be what Koehler needed as he found his way to the front of the field. Shawn Havel and Charlie Kroll assumed the role of playing spoiler to Koehler’s feature win. Havel and Kroll raced side by side throughout the feature. Each driver had his chance to knock Koehler off the thrown but each fell short. Koehler drove off into the moonlight with his second win of 2012. Havel edged Kroll to the line for second. Dave Bouche inherited the point lead with his fourth place finish. Jeremy Wiitala finished fifth.
