(Sturgeon Bay, WI) July 28 Results – 74 cars took the green flag in front of a packed house at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway on Olson Fabrication night. Shawn Havel survived a late race restart outlasting Dave Bouche to score his second feature of the season in the IMCA Stock Cars. Other feature winners were James Tebon (IMCA Modified), Ryan LeMieux (IMCA Sport Mod), Derek Moede (IMCA Hobby Stock), Geno Sternard (Street Stock) and Matt Sargent (Four-Cylinders). Thunderhill Raceway will have a quick turn around because of the Door County Fair, with racing taking place this Wednesday, August 1 with a start time of 6:30pm. Back gate is $25 with the fair and races only costing $10.

Shawn Havel doubled up also winning the Estes Family drivers bike race around the 1/3 mile clay oval. Cory Nessinger was crowned the winner in the Trailer Race of Destruction.

Scott Reinhardt fought off Bret Koehler to lead the opening laps of the IMCA Stock Car headliner. Shawn Havel quickly shot to second and began to chase down the leader. Reinhardt biggest challenge became mechanical gremlins as his machine was forced to the pits on lap 7, handing the lead over to Havel. Dave Bouche and Charlie Kroll waged a spirited battle for the second spot with Bouche securing the position by the midway point. A caution late in the event setup a 4 lap dash to the checkers. Troy Muench used this to break into the top 3. As Bouche and Muench wrestled for second Havel went on to score his second feature win of the season, scoring a clean sweep by winning his heat race earlier in the night. Bouche scored second allowing him to gain 1 point in the title chase with Muench taking home third, Kroll fourth and last weeks winner Devin Snellenberger rounded out the top five.

James Lee Tebon scored his 5th feature win of the season in the IMCA Modifieds.

Second generation racer Scott Derenne jumped from the pole position and held the competition off early on. Last weeks winner Felix Dart wasted no time working the low groove into the runner up position. Point leader James Tebon followed suit and raced to the back bumper of Dart. With Tebon and Dart working down low, Billy LeMieux moved to the high side pulling even with Tebon. With the pressure on the point leader and Derenne sliding high Tebon went 3 wide with Dart taking the lead away from Derenne by the midway point. Tebon pulled away from a seasoned field picking up the win and padding his point lead. Dart had to settle for second, Derenne scored a season best third, Eugene Gregorich Sr. fourth, LeMieux fifth.

The “Rocket” Ryan LeMieux scored his first feature of the season in the IMCA Sport Mods after starting in row 8.

Jesse Kroll paced the opening lap as the leader before a broken ball joint sent him to the pits. Rick LeMieux paced the next two circuits before Kelsy Hayes took the lead away. Last weeks winner Bernie Reinhardt gave chase working to the runner up position by the midway point. Hayes led the next 10 laps and looked to have her second win of the season in hand with a solid lead. The caution flew on lap 15 as point leader Randy LeMieux Jr. lost a driveshaft on the front stretch, setting up a 5 lap dash to the checkers. Ryan LeMieux showed his hand after starting deep in the field, racing around Hayes on the restart and he cruised to his first feature win of the season. Hayes had to settle for second, Reinhardt placed a solid third, Jarred VanLaanen took home fourth and is the new point leader, Dennis Miesler rounded out the top five.

Derek Moede picked up his first main event of the season in the IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Kimberly Denil lead the opening lap before Derek Moede made his way to the front. Dave Schmidt followed through taking over the runner up position on lap 5. Schmidt then set his sights on Moede. With just 2 laps remaining Schmidt took over the top spot using the cushion to his advantage. Moede mashed the throttle wrestling the lead away as the white flag flew. Schmidt popped the cushion giving Moede the advantage out of turn 2 and Moede scored the win in an action packed feature. Schmidt placed a solid second, Scott Boulanger placed third after starting on row 5, Rob Waechter Jr. was a late arrival and started in row 9 and finished fourth, CJ Weckler rounded out the top five.

Geno Sternard inherited the lead at the midway point and survived a late race restart, winning the Street Stock feature.

Former Champion Von Eytcheson used his front row starting spot to distance himself from the rest of the field early on. Marvin Denny brought out the first caution as his racer lost a right front wheel. Denny headed to the pits but his crew got him back out in time and he stayed on the lead lap. Again Eytcheson pulled away on the restart with Geno Sternard and point leader Dennis Weidner giving chase. With the race well in hand Eytcheson’s racer broke ending his bid for the win, handing the lead over to Sternard. Sternard ran unopposed to his second victory of the season, Weidner padded his point lead with a second place finish, RJ Sternard placed a season best third, Ed Franklin placed fourth after an early trip down pit lane and tilte contender Jimmy Anderson brought home fifth.

Action was halted with 5 laps remaining in the Street Stock main as Rookie Jason Barfell tangled with Kevin Luedkte. Barfell’s machine almost rolled over then slammed head on into the turn 2 wall. This also ended Luedkte’s night on the hook. Barfell emerged under his own power, beat up and bruised with his race car destroyed.

Matt Sargent out dueled point leader Joey Scoon in the Feisty Four backwards race.
