Randy LeMieux Jr. Victorious at Thunderhill
By Chris Budzban
August 23, 2008; Sturgeon Bay, WI – Hometown driver Randy LeMieux Jr. led every lap en route to his 1st feature win of the 2008 season in the IMCA modified division at the Forest County Potawatomi Thunderhill Raceway. Brussels’ Troy Muench took back to back wins in the IMCA stock cars, also picking up the feature win Friday night at Luxemburg.
LeMieux sprinted off of his front row starting spot, and was able to build up a sizable lead. Tim Czarneski and Jeremy Jacobs battled for second, with points leader Todd Dart following close behind. LeMieux went on to win the feature, Czarneski grabbed second, followed by Jacobs, Dart and Jay Matthias.
Muench put on a dominating display, charging hard on the bottom lane to make his way toward the front. He would catch and pass Scott Reinhardt for the lead, and cruised to his 2nd feature win of the weekend. Points leader Matt Junio finished second, followed by Scott Pagels, Greg Gretz and Gary Reinhardt.
Luxemburg’s Dave DeGrave wasted no time getting to the front of the IMCA hobby stock feature, getting by early leader Rick LuMaye on the inside to overtake the top spot. Jarred VanLaanen would give chase, but his pass for 2nd place was wiped out by a Roger LaViolette spin. DeGrave would go on to hold off Frank Paul for the win, with Jason LaViolette, VanLaanen and Peterson rounding out the top five. Jason LaViolette was disqualified after a post race inspection, moving the rest of the field behind him up one position.
IMCA northern sport mod points leader Jeff Vlies picked up his 2nd feature win of the season, passing rookie driver Brad Lautenbach on the outside en route to victory. Lautenbach settled for second, followed by Aaron Holiday, Bernie Reinhardt and Keith Kickbusch.
Brillion’s Ryan Brandes picked up the feature win in the street stock division, doing so in his 1st appearance this year at Thunderhill. James Iverson set the pace early with a 3-wide pass, but Brandes chased him down on the outside and cruised to the checkers. Iverson took second, followed by Thom Terrien, Jeremy Wiitala and John Sternard.
Oneida’s Jody Cornelius survived the crash-filled 4 cylinder feature event to pick up his 1st feature win of the season.
Next week is championship night at Thunderhill, sponsored by Kelsey Racing. Our 2008 track champions in all six divisions will be crowned. Racing begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening. For more information, visit the website at www.racethunderhill.com or call (920) 743-7052.
