(Sturgeon Bay, WI) August 31, 2013 Results- Championship night will certainly be remembered for a long time by all. Scott Reinhardt was able to hold off Shawn Havel to score his first feature win of the season in the IMCA Stock Cars at Thunderhill Raceway. Other feature winners were James Tebon (IMCA Modified), Dennis Miesler (IMCA Sport Mod), Bill Hayes (IMCA Hobby Stock) and Mike Sargent (Street Stock)

It was one of those nights where every feature could be the lead story. We will start with the IMCA Stocks which saw an opening lap crash that ended night for Jeremy Anschutz and Jamie Suchocki. Point leader Dave Bouche was also caught up in the wreck, giving the defending champion a damaged radiator. Bouche had to finish 12th or better to clinch the title. As the race restarted Scott Reinhardt raced to the lead. Bouche continued to race until his temperature gauge was pegged at 250 degrees, his car slowed and headed to the pits ending his night.

Title contender Shawn Havel hauled tail to the runner up position. Havel pressured Reinhardt for the lead. A full season of wear and tear began to set in as cars began to drop like flies. With 5 laps remaining there were only 3 cars left running. Reinhardt was able to hold off a hard charging Havel to score his first feature win of the season. Brett Koehler also battled mechanical issues to finish third, Dan Sell and Tony Bouche completed the top five. Despite not finishing the feature Dave Bouche was able to secure enough points to earn his second track championship in a row.

The opening lap of the IMCA Sport Mod main event was one fans won’t forget any time soon as Cody Rass and Andy Ratajczak wheel hoped resulting in Rass barrel rolling down the front stretch. Rass’s racer came to a halt on the driver side and the fuel cell was ripped out of the car lying next to the driver. The red flag waved stopping the field. Sturgeon Bay Fire and Rescue were called in to extricate Rass from his battered machine. Rass was alert and speaking to track officials. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital with back and neck pain, any additional info on his well being will be posted on our facebook page.

Lost in the mix was the point battle of Bernie Reinhardt and Randy LeMieux Jr. who came into the night just 3 points apart. Dennis Miesler was able to work past Rick LeMieux on lap 3 for the lead. Miesler held on the rest of the way to score his first feature win of the season. LeMieux Jr. did all he could but came up short with a second place finish, Reinhardt placed third, Kelsy Hayes rallied to fourth after a trip down pit lane and Jarred VanLaanen rounded out the top five. Reinhardt became the first driver to win back to back championships in the Sport Mods.

James Lee Tebon fought off a hard charging Todd Dart to score his 3rd feature win of the season in the IMCA Modifieds. With 2 laps remaining Tebon and Dart touched sending Dart sliding through the grass, ending his bid for the win. Eric Scribner raced to second in his first visit of the season, Rookie Greg Gretz was third, Scott Ratajczak came home fourth and Eric Arneson was fifth. For Tebon it was his second championship in a row.

Bill Hayes’s return to racing was a successful one as he worked past Justin Hartel for the lead on lap 4 of the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Hayes was able to hold off the competition for the win in only his second start of the season. Joe Hegnet came home second, Scott Boulanger was third, CJ Weckler fourth and Derek Moede was fifth. Boulanger was crowned champion of the division, the first of his career.

Mike Sargent muscled his way past Rookie Joey Scoon to win his first ever Street Stock main. Brandon Peterson crossed the finish line on fire and still finished second, Jeremy DuBois was third, Keith Kickbusch and Tony Everard completed the top five. Kickbusch was able to secure the championship, his second of the weekend after claiming the crown at Luxemburg Speedway on Friday,

Rookie of the Year Greg Gretz jumped to the lead out pacing James Tebon on the opening lap of the IMCA Modified feature. Gretz held the top spot running the cushion as veteran racer Todd Dart worked low. Dart kept the pressure on but Gretz was up for the challenge holding off the from champ. Just before the midway contest Gretz suffered mechanical issues handing the lead over to Dart. A pit crew challenge was issued and right after the midway point all the drivers headed to pit lane where they had to change one tire. Each driver pitched in $20 for whoever had the fastest stop and that honor went to Billy LeMieux’s crew. As the race restarted Dart checked out, going unchallenged the remainder of the contest to win his 2nd feature of the year. By placing second Tebon earned enough points to clinch his second Modified championship a week early. LeMieux, Scott Ratajczak and Gretz completed the top five.

“Sugar Daddy” Shawn Havel kept his title hopes alive with his 4th IMCA Stock Car feature win of the season. Rookie David Reinhardt paced the field early on working to a huge lead. For the second week in a row Jamie Suchocki took second, Scott Reinhardt was third, point leader Dave Bouche was fourth and John Anschutz was fifth. Bouche leads Havel by 12 points heading into championship night.

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) August 17, 2013 Results- IMCA Stock Car point leader Dave “The Bulldozer” Bouche took the lead away from Jamie Suchocki with just 2 laps remaining to score his 3rd feature win of the season at Thunderhill Raceway. Other feature winners were James Tebon (IMCA Modified), Jarred VanLaanen (IMCA Sport Mod), Scott Boulanger (IMCA Hobby Stock) and Billy LeMieux (Street Stock)

The Powder-Puff race will makes its annual visit to the Hill on Saturday August 24. The rescheduled Bartenders race will also take place at the end of the night. Action will be brought to you by Palmer Johnson Yachts.

Tony Bouche looked like the man the beat early on in the IMCA Stock Car feature until Jamie Suchocki raced by using the high side on lap 8. Suchocki paced the field opening up a sizable advantage over Tony. Defending champ Dave Bouche quickly raced to the top five and slipped by his Uncle Tony for the runner up position. Dave then began to chop away at Suchocki’s advantage. Suchocki kept working the high side with Dave down low. With 3 laps remaining Dave snuck to the inside of the leader, taking the top spot as the white flag flew. Suchocki fought back on the final lap pulling ahead down the backstretch. The duo raced door to door out of turn 4 with checker waving, Dave was able to beat Suchocki to the finish line by only a fender. Shawn Havel was third, Tony Bouche fourth and Scott Reinhardt completed the top five. For the Bulldozer it was his second win in a row.

Jarred VanLaanen earned a his 3rd feature win of the season in the IMCA Sport Mods.

Three different drivers led the first 3 laps of the Sport Mod main with Rookie Cody Rass pacing the field through a series of cautions. This kept the field on his rear spoiler allowing Jarred VanLaanen to muscle his way by Rass on a lap 7 restart. Title contender Randy LeMieux Jr. had a good night go bad while running third as his racer lost power sending him coasting into the pits. VanLaanen went unchallenged the rest of the way picking up the win. Bernie Reinhardt capitalized on LeMieux‘s mechanical issues by placing second, Rass, Jeff Lautenbach and Jacob Zellner rounded out the top five.

Scott Boulanger raced around Travis Lumaye for the lead midway through the IMCA Hobby Stock feature and never looked back picking up his 7th victory of the season. DART & HAVEL HUSTLE TO $1000 PAYDAY / MASSART WINS FIRST SPORT MOD MAIN AT THUNDERHILL RACEWAY

Photos by Dan Lewis Photography – www.danlewisphoto.net

By Edward Anschutz

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) July 27, 2013 Results- Shawn “Sugar Daddy” Havel snatched $1,000 and a feature win away from Troy Muench and Ben Kroll late in the going of the IMCA Stock Car main event at Thunderhill Raceway. The victory earned Havel a special Kim Parsons Memorial Trophy along with the his biggest payday of his career . Other feature winners were Todd Dart (IMCA Modified), Josh Massart (IMCA Sport Mod), Scott Boulanger (IMCA Hobby Stock) and Keith Kickbusch (Street Stock). Quietwoods RV Sales & Service provided a wild Trailer Race of Destruction. Those who attended saw how tough their campers are. Thank you to all the teams who participated.

Next weekend there will be no racing as the Door County Fair is in town. Racing will resume on Saturday August 10. Huge thanks to Steve Parsons for providing special trophies for all feature winners. Parsons is helping promote organ and tissue donation in memory of his daughter.

The stakes were high when the 17 car starting field of IMCA Stock Cars rolled out. All drivers knew at the end of the 25 lap feature a $1,000 payday was waiting for the winner. Ben Kroll wheeled his White Lightening Chassis to lead in the opening laps. Troy Muench was the first to put the pressure on Kroll for the top spot. Muench was then able to work inside Kroll taking the lead on lap 10. Even with the lead Muench was unable to shake Kroll at the midway point of the contest.

With Muench and Kroll arguing for the same real-estate, Shawn Havel raced to third on the high side. As laps clicked away Havel inched closer and closer to the outside of Kroll for second. With a handful of laps remaining Kroll knew it was go time and he began to muscle his way inside of Muench. Every time Kroll tangled with Muench, Havel gained more ground. With 2 laps remaining Havel took the lead but Muench rallied back pulling even with Havel down the backstretch on the final lap. With the checkers coming down it was Havel taking the win and the money by half a car length over Muench. Kroll was third, Dave Bouche and Bret Koehler completed the top five.

“Felix” Todd Dart joined Havel at the pay window scoring a $1,000 victory in the IMCA Modifieds.

The Modified main brought some heavy hitters out for the extra cash that included 2 former IMCA National Champions and several multi-time track champions. As Leddy dropped the green Rookie Greg Gretz raced past Eric Arneson and to the lead. Gretz winner of the last 2 features looked tough early on. Dart quickly slid into the runner up position, reeled in Gretz and took the lead away on lap 9. Laps later Gretz suffered mechanical woes ending his night. Dart ran unopposed the remainder of the contest earning his first feature win of the year. Dart is 4 feature wins shy of the big “50” at Thunderhill. James Tebon, Dan Ratajczak, Jared Siefert and Tyler Hackett rounded out the top five. The 25 lap contest went green to checker.

Josh Massart took the lead away from Martin Kelsey on lap 3 and survived a series of cautions to win his first ever IMCA Sport Mod feature. Kelsey lost a power plant while running fourth ending his night. With a second place finish Randy LeMieux Jr. sits just 1 point behind point leader Bernie Reinhardt who was third, Dennis Miesler and Rookie Jacob Zellner completed the top five.

In IMCA Hobby Stock action Scott Boulanger took the lead away from CJ Weckler on lap 2 and never looked back racing to his 5th feature win of the season. Joe Hegnet scored second, point leader Derek Moede was third, Rookie Dan Van Pay was fourth and second generation racer Cody Junio had his best career finish with fifth.

Street Stock point leader Keith “The Kicker” Kickbusch outlasted Billy LeMieux to win his 3rd feature of the season. LeMieux raced door to door with Kickbusch the entire 15 laps but had to settle for second. Marcus Moede rallied late to nab third.
