Soukup Topless Memorial

By Edward Anschutz

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) July 4, 2013 Press Release- Thunderhill Raceway sets to pay its respect for a man who meant so much to so many with the John Soukup Memorial this Saturday July 6th. Our racing family lost John this off season due to a battle with cancer. In his memory the IMCA Sport Mods will be in the spot light with driver introductions. To top it all off the Sport Mods will be racing for a $500 top prize if their topless. I’ll repeat that, in order to claim the $500 for the win you must have the to the roof and sail panels removed. If not standard pay applies.

The night will be brought to you by Coors Light and Coors beer will only be $1 all night with a paid wristband.

Eagle’s Inside Groove…The Terry Simon Memorial has been rescheduled for next Saturday.

Jamie Suckocki broke a very long winless streak holding off the defending IMCA Stock Car champion Dave Bouche and former Stock Car champ Larry Karcz Jr. who won the title in 1999. Karcz is wheel a Wolfe Chassis formerly owned by Eric and Chris Malfoid. The current owner of the car is George Paul who also fields a car for Street Stock point leader Keith Kickbusch. Karcz is slated to run the Badger Stock Car Tour which makes its way to Thunderhill on Thursday July 18. A solid field of talent is expected for the Thursday Night Thunder event.

A unique feat took place in the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sport Mods where a father and son stood in victory when the night ended. Dan and Andy Ratajczak became members of a select list of father/son tandems that scored feature wins on the same night. Track Historian Tom Wagner keeps track of all those stats and I’ll be contacting him to get the complete list of all the families who have done as they did.

I encourage everyone to check the remaining schedule for Thunderhill as there is so much going on I cant fit it on one press release. There’s a little something for everyone, some come get your thrill at Thunderhill.

Five divisions do battle every Saturday night through the summer. IMCA Modified, IMCA Stock Car, IMCA Northern Sport Mod, IMCA Hobby Stock and Street Stocks will compete on the 1/3rd mile clay oval. For more information, please visit the track’s website at www.racethunderhill.com Thunderhill is located at the John Miles Fair Park on Sturgeon Bay’s east side. Track GPS address is 1116 N 15th Pl. Pit gates open at 3:30 P.M. racing starts at 6:00 P.M. For your social media outlet like Thunderhill Raceway on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
