(Sturgeon Bay, WI) The Door County Fair has designated this Wednesday, August 1 to hold action for point night #8 at Prestige Yacht Coatings Thunderhill Raceway. The night will be for track and all IMCA points. If you have a paid pit stall you will still get your spot.
Racing starts at 6:30, $10 to get into the fair which gives you a free pass to the grandstands. $25 to go in the pits. For more Door County Fair info and prices please visit their website at www.doorcounty.org/Fair/
IMCA Modified point leader James Lee Tebon got back on track taking home feature win number 5 in front a 700+ crowd. The Algoma driver is the only one to have multiple wins in the class. Algoma’s Todd Dart and Frog Station’s Dan Ratajczak are the only other Mod drivers to score victories at Thunderhill.
The Mods saw the return of 4-Times Modified Champion Eugene Gregorich Sr. of Kewaunee. Gregorich has been testing and designing new setups for his 2010 Hairy Fatboy Chassis. Todd Dart and Gregorich have a combined 10 Modified Championships. That’s exactly half of the 20 years raced at Thunderhill.
Troy Munch of Union sits atop the stands in the IMCA Stock Cars. Algoma’s Dave Bouche has put the pressure on Muench finishing in front of him Saturday in the feature, closing the gap to a mere 2 points. Green Bay’s Jeremy Wiitala is still in the hunt running third in the standings, only 11 points back. No driver has ever won championships in 3 different divisions at Thunderhill, Wiitala could become the first as he holds titles in the Street Stocks and the defunct Bomber class.
There’s a new sheriff in town for the IMCA Sport Mods and it’s Green Bay’s Jarred VanLannen leading the standings. Former point leader Randy LeMieux Jr., had a rear swedge tube break which allowed the rear end of the car to move erratically causing his racer to lose the driveshaft ending his night and costing him valuable points. Sturgeon Bay’s Bernie Reinhardt has been on a hot streak, leading the class with 3 feature wins. Reinhardt has crept back into the title chase moving to third in the standings a mere 4 points back of VanLannen. Like Wiitala, if Reinhardt can win the title he’d have 3 championship is 3 different classes.
Point leader Tom Brumlic had an up and down feature in the IMCA Hobby Stocks as he ran to the top 4 early on. But after a late race restart Brumlic was muscled back to the sixth spot where he would finish. Sturgeon Bay’s CJ Weckler used this to his advantage closing the points to 14 behind Brumlic. Race winner Derek Moede scored his first ever Thunderhill win and sits third in the standings 15 back of the leader.
Dennis Weidner had one of his best showings of the season since he won the feature opening night in the Street Stocks, bring home a solid second Saturday night. The East Maplewood driver extended his point lead to 9 markers over Forestville’s Jimmy Anderson. Weidner has had several motor issues but looks to have the mechanical demons gone and is poised to secure his first ever Championship.
In order to give the fans a better show with Feisty Fours, they ran the class the wrong way around the track to which Sturgeon Bay’s Matt Sargent won his first ever feature. Joey Scoon also of Sturgeon Bay holds a commanding 33 point lead over Sargent and looks to just about have the title wrapped up barring something crazy happening.
