Terry Simon Memorial June 21

By Edward Anschutz

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) June 19, 2014- Thunderhill Raceway is set to honor Terry Simon this Saturday, June 21. Terry was a huge supporter of local dirt track racing. You didn’t have to look far to find his wife Darlene sitting beside him in the stands or walking through the pits as they talked to all the drivers. Sadly we lost Terry to an unfortunate accident. He is sadly missed by many and we’re racing in his memory with the 3rd Annual Terry Simon Memorial.

The 1st Choice Auto, Kelsey Coatings Vintage Race Cars will be on display. Fans will be able to see what body styles competed back in the day at Sturgeon Bay. We are also hoping to give rides in the vintage cars at intermission. Race fans will also get free popcorn. Action kicks off at 6:00 P.M.

Week 6 Race Wars…

The bounty continues in the Street Stock division for anyone who can beat point leader Billy LeMieux. This will be the 3rd week of the bounty. LeMieux has his race car fixed up and ready to go again this week as he’s chasing his first ever championship. A lot of trash talk has started and there should be a solid number of new faces looking to take home that top prize. Many of Oshkosh’s best Street Stock drivers have inquired about the track layout. LeMieux leads Kevin Luedtke by 12 points.

Thunderhill Raceway website designer Chris “Budzo” Budzban has raced his way into the point lead of the IMCA Sport Mods. Budzo leads fellow hot-shoe Ryan LeMieux by just one point heading into week 6. Both drivers are also in the hunt for the title at Luxemburg Speedway.

The IMCA Stock Cars had a shake up as point leader Shawn Havel suffered a dnf letting Charlie Kroll close to within 1 point. 2-time defending champ Dave Bouche sits 2 markers back.

With his 50th Thunderhill win Felix Dart padded his point lead in the IMCA Modifieds to 7 over 2-time defending champ James Tebon.

Jeremy Jauquet is clinging to a 1 point advantage over Derek Moede in the IMCA Hobby Stocks.

THUNDERHILL RACEWAY OPENER THIS SATURDAY MAY 17 / HUGE IMPROVEMENTS FOR 2014

By Edward Anschutz

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) May 14, 2014- One of the nicest racing facilities in Wisconsin readies for the 2014 season opener this Saturday night May 17 at Thunderhill Raceway brought to you by Dave Hatch Racing and WDOR. Staff and management are crossing their fingers in hopes mother-nature will play nice and allow the men and women to strap in their racers and drop the hammer this weekend. Racing starts at 6:00pm

IMCA Rep, John Sternard is asking drivers to show up early for pre-race tech inspection. Dan & Mary Lewis will be on hand for Hot Shot photos.

Our fearless track promoter Woody Wodack has worked since championship night last season to make 2014 the best in can for our drivers and fans. The hard work and dedication has certainly paid off as drivers will be competing for $28,000 in contingencies that include a boat load of racing parts for every division, thousands in cash and a 602 Crate Engine.

The track known as the “Circle of Death” received a huge make over for 2014. Hundreds of yards of fresh premium clay now covers the newly shaped track. The track was surveyed and laid out with state of the art equipment. All problem spots in the track, namely turn 2 and 4 were cut out. This will add banking to the exit of each corner, setting it up for late race passes. The clay was laid out from the top side of the track and worked to the bottom, this will offer drivers a multi-racing groove around the 1/3 mile oval. The track surface was also widened to 75′ all the way around which will make it easy for 3 and 4 wide racing action.

Thunderhill Raceway features arguably one of the nicest dirt track faculties in Wisconsin. On track Musco Lighting that makes it look like daytime when night falls. Hard packed pit area makes easy to work on your race car. The track is also level with the pit area making it easily to keep up on track conditions or watch racing as if you were in the stands. The PA system is second to none with premium speakers in the stands and in the pit area. The covered grandstand offers back rest and plenty of leg room.

Five divisions do battle every Saturday night through the summer. IMCA Modified, IMCA Stock Car, IMCA Northern Sport Mod, IMCA Hobby Stock and Street Stocks will compete on the 1/3rd mile clay oval. THUNDERHILL OPENER CANCELLED FOR MAY 10, INSTEAD A PRACTICE WILL BE HELD AT 3:30pm

(Sturgeon Bay, WI) May 9, 2014- Officials at Thunderhill Raceway have decided to cancel the season opener for this Saturday May 10. The track is too soft for a full race night, especially on the top groove where it’s to wet for a 20 car feature. Woody has stated from the beginning that the track had to be 100% ready.

So instead of the opener this Saturday May 10 a practice will be held from 3:30pm to 7:30pm. This will allow for the perfect number of cars to be on the track at once and allow track officials to focus in on the places that will need work before the opener.

We can dictate the cars at a practice but we can’t on a race night.

Woody stated; “This wasn’t an easy decision by any means, if the track was hard we’d be racing. I’m just as frustrated as everyone else is on this matter. It isn’t worth wrecking cars and the track just to get this night in, all the hard work with the new clay would all be for nothing. We’ll get this practice in and prep the track to start the season next Saturday.”

Practice is open to all divisions. Pit gates open at 2:30pm. $15 charge for anyone entering the pits. No charge for the grandstand.

Practice only this Saturday May 10 at 3:30pm
