The Class they call “To Tough To Tame”

By: The Eagle

Finishes are from June 14th

“Mad” Matt Junio is back a top the point standings. It took 5 weeks of racing, but the 2007 IMCA Stockcar champion is back on top of the mountain where he spent most of the last season. After his 5th top 10 finish Junio, currently holds a slim 1 point lead over Dave Bouche With only one top 4 finish, the season hasn’t started the way the returning champ would have planned. “The car just hasn’t seemed to be performing they way it did last season, we’re going to throw a few things at it suspension wise and see if it helps” Junio said. Who also has been fighting some motor gremlins this year. Last year Matt won multiple feature wins, and is hoping the new changes will put the Red Bandit Racing Chassis back in victory lane.

Bouche who was the early season point leader struggled with a ill handling car the week before at ThunderHill, finishing in 15th place. So Dave and the crew went hard at work to nail down what the problems could be. They determined that the rear end housing was the not the same dimensions as the one run in the previous season. So back in with the old rear end housing. With the changes, Dave was able to drive to a 2nd place finish in the feature Saturday night. But it was a up hill battle from the beginning. After contact with another car Bouche had collected a tractor tire on the infield and his racer, had left front suspension damage. But with the new rear end in his car he got so much rear traction through the corners it would actually pull the left front tire off the ground. So he was able soldier on, and what could have been a bad night, turned into a point gain on Junio. Dave has 1 feature win to his credit this season, winning opening night

3rd in points “Chargin” Charlie Kroll, sits just 4 markers back, and has got his season back on track after having mechanical trouble the first few nights. Winner 2 out of the last 3 races, Kroll looks to have the hot hand right now. And it was prolly a stroke of luck Kroll was even able to finish the feature on Saturday, let alone win. As the car was looked over in the shop for a starter issue this week, the crew found the transmission bell housing that was busted all the around causing the transmission to hang down on the starter causing the car not to start after the feature.

4th in points sits Todd Polster, after taking a year off, Todd has taken his new Victory Chassis Stockcar to within 5 points of leader Junio. The feature did not start out the best for Polster, as he found himself sitting sideways on the backstretch in the opening laps, bringing out the caution. Polster would restart at the tail end of the field and drive all the back into the top 4. Finishing a strong 5th when the checkers fell. Todd has been a hard charger coming from deep in the field many times already this season.

5th place belongs to the Greg Gretz. Gretz a former regular at ThunderHill has returned as has emerged as a possible title contender. Greg currently sits 10 markers behind Junio. Gretz held the point lead by 3 markers over Junio heading into Saturday nights feature event. But after a caution, Gretz’s racer would remain sitting in turn 3 as the field idled onto the front stretch. The wrecker had to help remove his car from the track, and he would go into the pits ending his night very early. The diagnosis would be a broken transmission, that cost him the point lead.

With top 3 in points having over 50 years racing experience some things gotta give. See you all next Saturday night!
